San Lorenzo School boys billiards team composed of Quinn Daniel Ruiz and Nigel Machado finished the recently concluded San Pedro City Division Athletic Association Meet 2025 tournament in 9-ball billiards and 8-ball billiards with a bronze medal on January 24, 2025. Quinn Daniel, who was able to reach the Regional Athletic Association Meet in 2024, and the young but promising neophyte, Nigel Machado, bowed to the more skillful and experienced players of Adelina 1 National High School (A1NHS), Raniel Rabe and 12 year old Drexzel JM Inapan.
The Billiards tournament was held in the United Billiards Hall where the A1NHS players are regulars. In the 9-ball tournament semi-final round, Nigel Machado who is competing for the first time lost to the Grade 10 Raniel Rabe 3-5. Quinn Daniel Ruiz also lost to JM Inapan 1-5. In the battle for 3rd place, Ruiz pulled ahead with a 5-2 win over the young Machado, while the 12-year old Inapan beat the older Rabe.
In the 8-ball tournament semi-final round, Quinn Daniel who would have sealed his victory regretfully lost 3 racks from last ball shots that wobbled at the pocket resulting to a 4-5 loss against JM. Nigel on the other table who appeared to have lost his steam due to the heat lost to Raniel. The battle for 3rd finished with a 3-5 score in favor of Ruiz, while Rabe finished the race with a 5-3 win over Inapan to take the 8-ball gold medal.
