The Class of 2024 had a memorable culmination of their hard work from months of studying this academic year 2023-2024 by becoming the first batch to hold their Commencement Exercises indoors. Due to the alarming rise in temperatures since the end of March which has disrupted the learning modality in several schools around the country where local government heads declared suspensions of face-to-face classes because of the high heat index, the school administrators have decided to change the venue for the closing ceremonies which have always been held in the school grounds for the past 40 years. This year’s Recognition rites and Commencement Exercises were held at SM Supercenter Muntinlupa where the venue is more conducive to the occasion.
The Recognition rites in the morning showcased the achievements of over. 150 undergraduate students from the preschool, elementary, and high school departments. Some of the faculty and staff were also recognized and awarded for achieved their exemplary performance, punctuality, dedication, innovation, and loyalty. Teacher Mark John Lagaña received a 10-year loyalty award while teachers Annabel Macayan, Mila Dingding, Ana Bulaclac were recognized for serving for over 30 years, and Dr. Miriam Berroya, the School principal, for 40 astounding years! Teachers Joyce Montañez, Anna Melissa Partosa, and Jofelanie Gaddi were awarded Teachers of the Year in their respective departments by the SLS-PTA.
The Commencement Exercises of the Grade 6 Elementary and Grade 12 Senior High School, as well as the Completion Rites of the Kindergarten and Grade 10 students were held in the afternoon. This ceremony’s guest speaker, Mr. Nabeel Paolo M. Gatchalian, a San Lorenzo School alumnus from HS Batch 2010 who finished his tertiary degree at the University of the Philippines Los Baños with Latin honors, shared his inspiring message to the Class of 2024 with a theme focused on the Filipino Youth for a stronger future of a New Philippines. The program witnessed the greetings delivered by the Over-all Top 1 in Grade 10: Atasha Alexandra Y. Gaddi, the impressive gratitude speech of the Over-all Top 1 in Kindergarten: Drake Zion T. Ortega, the Valedictory Address of the Over-all Top 1 in Grade 12: Andrea Dominique T. Aguilar, and the Pledge of Loyalty led by the Over-all Top 1 in Grade 6: Ron Andrei E. Quejano.
